Bed-stuy brownstone
JPA was hired to renovate and restore this once-glorious brownstone from the inside out. Over the years, the building’s facade had been painted and portions of it were crumbling, and the historic front door was swapped out with a generic, massed produced replacement. We refinished the facade in brownstone and added depth to the windows and front porch to accentuate these iconic and tactile features, all influenced by federal, neo-grec, and Italianate features from neighboring brownstones.
A garden square was added to compliment the verdant, tree-lined street upon which this house sits. Inside, we focused on restoring once removed original finishes, which we carefully juxtaposed alongside contemporary design elements and art objects that connect to the clients’ personal interests. Extensive renovations of the bathrooms, bedrooms, and communal areas focus on creating space for harmony between old and new. The color palette was informally inspired by the couples’ Instagram-famous dog, Dani: shades of off white and brown commingle with deeper green tones, paying homage to her green collar.
