West village loft
The barrel vaulted ceiling of this 19th century loft in the West Village was covered in plaster when our clients hired us to renovate this space: a converted factory turned apartment building. We uncovered the exposed brick ceiling, repaired or replaced all damaged bricks to match the existing, and re-pointed the ceiling. As we did not want any light fixtures or electrical conduit interrupting the brick ceiling, we designed a steel channel light fixture that carries linear LEDs to create ambient light across the brick barrel vaults. New millwork built-ins were installed throughout the apartment, as well as new floors, a new Hearth cabinet fireplace and surround, and new steel glass walls to partition the space.
From Elle Decor, “Uncovering the Bones of This Handsome Converted Factory was like a ‘Science Experiment’”: When a project has bones this good, less is most definitely more. Interior designer Bachman Clem and architect Jon Powell were on the same page from the get-go when it came to this loft inside a late-19th-century converted factory building in the West Village.
